The Perfect Time to Upgrade Your Circular Saws & Bandsaws
In March 2021 the Chancellor announced the ‘super deduction’ allowance to boost economic
recovery and provide additional help for businesses needing to invest in new machinery. It is the
most attractive tax incentive for machinery investment ever offered by a British government!
It gives businesses a much higher tax deduction in the tax year of purchase than would ordinarily be
the case, so long as they make the purchase between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2023. Unlike the
AIA (Annual Investment Allowance) there is no cap on how much you spend.
How much tax relief can we get?
The super deduction gives relief at 130% of the qualifying cost compared to the usual 18% writing
down allowance. In real terms, this means your company can claim up to 25p extra for every pound
you invest on new purchases under the scheme – a significant saving.
Which businesses qualify?
The super deduction allowance is only available to UK companies that pay corporation tax.
Individuals, partnerships and LLPs cannot apply.
All our bandsaws & circular saws qualify!
The ‘Super deduction’ allowance includes machinery that ordinarily qualifies for the 18% main pool
rate of writing down allowances such as bandsaw machines. Second-hand machines don’t qualify,
however, and just go into the pool.
If you are planning to buy machinery to lease then the allowance doesn’t apply either. If you file
your accounts under IFRS then you could take advantage of IFRS16 rules for leased assets which limit
impact to EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation).
