An Oil tool Engineering company were looking to resolve a production bottle neck within their manufacturing process.

They had a component that had to be machined to tight tolerances, It had to be marked out by hand, and then sub contracted out for cutting on a vertical bandsaw, The marking out process took 5 hours alone.

They approached the sawing industry to resolve their problems.

Out of the 7 sawing companies invited to provide solutions, only Saws UK  the Alligator people - listened to the exact customer requirements, and provided a special purpose solution.

The machine chosen from Saws vast heavy-duty range was a standard Alligator Opus 800 TM frame, fitted with a custom built rotary table.

Fixtures had to be manufactured so the component could be easily lifted onto the rotary table, the machine is fully CNC controlled so once the operator has programmed how many sections the component is required to be cut into, and at what angle they need to be cut, he can set the machine off on its programme. When the machine has finished its programme, the machines illuminates a light, the operator then knows the programme has finished they then return and unload the component, still retained within the fixture, until safely removed from the machine. This frees the operator to do other process.

So successful was the complete project that components are now shipped into the Leeds factory from other Companies within the group, and a dedicated cell has been built around the saw.

Mr Martyn Grace the Project Manager, stated that Saws UK handled the whole project from initial conception right through to installation and commissioning without any problems, including visits to the manufacturer in Italy for production trials before the machine was shipped to the UK. The machine has now paid for itself well within the projected payback period. As well as cutting the production time for each component it also means that the component stays in house, therefore quality and delivery times do not suffer.
